Farmer's Market & CSA
Vegetable Ranch has participated in the Concord Farmer’s Market for the last dozen years. Each Saturday morning from early May to the end of October, the city closes Capital Street alongside New Hampshire’s statehouse where pedestrians shop for a complete range of local agricultural products. Unlike many markets, Concord insists that fruits and vegetables, meat and cheese, bread and jams, beer and wine, and other products be grown or produced within 25 miles of the market. Concord also insists that at least 75% of the vendors offer agricultural products. The result is perhaps the finest farmer’s market in the state with truly local goods and a vibrant social experience for lucky Concord Farmer’s Market shoppers. Look for the Vegetable Ranch tent at the Concord Farmer’s Market each Saturday morning from 8:30 to Noon – June through October. We’ll be in our usual spot near the corner of Capital and Main streets for the 14th consecutive year.
More recently, Concord has added the mid-week (now Thursday) farmer’s market off Loudon Road outside the Steeplegate Mall. From December to April, shoppers can find local produce and food products at the Concord Winter Market at Cole Gardens each Saturday from 10AM to 2PM. Vegetable Ranch is proud to offer its certified organic produce, free range eggs, and certified organic pork at all of the Concord Farmer’s Markets throughout the year. We’ll be there with full baskets of storage crops and fresh winter greens. If you are unable to make it to the farm’s market another way that you can find our produce is at one of these businesses:
- Concord Co-Op
- A Market (Manchester)
- The republic (Restaurant in Manchester)
- The Chop house (Restaurant in Manchester)
- Concord farmers markets (winter and summer)
- Senior Nutrition program (state run food distribution, Manchester and Concord)
- Open shop at the farm (Just stop by anytime)
CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) is a system that originated in Japan and blossomed in New Hampshire in the last ten years. In a CSA, members are able to purchase a share and lock in access to the choicest organic produce from local farms at a fair CSA price. Farms receive income early in the year when expenses are high before harvests begin. Members receive weekly baskets of seasonal fruits and vegetables fresh from the farm. A win-win arrangement for all involved.
Seasons and durations of CSAs vary. Vegetable Ranch participates in CSAs throughout the year including a winter CSA that runs from December to April and multiple CSAs during the traditional spring, summer and fall growing seasons from May to November. For the first time, Vegetable Ranch will also offer a certified organic pasture raised pork and poultry meat CSA beginning in June, 2014.
Vegetable Ranch LLC supplies wholesale organic produce to A-Market in Manchester, the Concord Cooperative Market, the Granite Restaurant, and other natural foods markets and restaurants in central New Hampshire. Please give us a call if you would like to consider an ongoing wholesale account with the Vegetable Ranch LLC.
Vegetable Ranch also offers workplace CSAs. If you have a group who would like to participate, contact us to learn how we can bring an organic CSA to you. Or, if you would like a different location and have 12 or more friends who would also like to be part of our CSA, just let us know. We are happy to design a CSA just for you. Buy a CSA share before the season begins to guarantee a full season of fresh organic produce. CSA members lock in access to the choicest organic produce that local farms can offer at a fair CSA price. Farmers receive income early in the year when expenses are high before harvests begin. A win-win arrangement for both consumers and local farms.
During the fall, the Vegetable Ranch LLC stores away carrots, beets, potatoes, onions, turnips, and other produce to save them for the winter. In December through March our high tunnel greenhouses provide spinach, lettuce, pac choi, shoots, sprouts and other cold-loving greens even as the snow piles up outside.
Just like a summer CSA, members of the Concord Area Winter CSA purchase CSA shares before the season begins. From mid-December to early April members receive nine distributions of certified organic root crops, storage vegetables, and fresh winter greens. Pickup locations are available in Concord, New London, and at the Vegetable Ranch in Warner.
